The expansion of the universe was discovered in 1927 by the Belgian Georges Lemaître. He discovered whatwas before him, Friedman found that the basic equations of relativity theory result is a dynamic universe. This discovery, he combined with Slipher and Hubble's redshift distances. He concluded that the universe is expanding. In its publication in the Annales de la Société Scientifique de Bruxelles in 1927, Lemaître wasalready the "Hubble law". Lemaître has deduced theoretically that galaxies are receding faster the further theyare away from us (compare: the Hubble constant). This result confirms he found in the observations. He wasnamed for the Hubble constant H0 later to a value that was confirmed in 1929, largely through the work ofHubble. Lemaître insisted that the "flight" of galaxies (in the context of the Shapley-Curtis debate with the no longer used term "cloud flight" means) is not understood as a movement in a fixed space away from us, but, in the sense the general relativity theory as an expansion of space.
