The word vimana (Sanskrit: विमान) referred to in ancient Indian texts (the Vedas, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana), among other vehicles, with which the gods and heroes of Indian mythology move through the sky. The word has a wider significance, however, discretion, which may change depending on the text and context do not always relate to a material object.
Some authors in the field of pre-astronautics take the legends about the Vimanas as evidence of a technologically advanced civilization in the past, sometimes even made a reference to Atlantis. This interpretation is based on similarities between the descriptions of Vimanas and modern space.
