GEIPAN - French Space Agency hunting Aliens 

The department was founded in 2005 and is based in Toulouse. It is the successor departments GEPAN (1977-1988) and SEPRA (1988-2004).

The task consists of GEIPAN reports of unidentified aerial phenomena and space, so-called UFOs to collect, analyze, archive and inform the public about the results. By 2008, ordered that all cases in one GEIPAN one of four categories: A (object identification), B (object identifies probable), C (insufficient data), D (unidentified). In recent statistics from 2007, the number of unidentified cases in category D since the founding of the group is specified with 448 of about 1600, which corresponds to 28%.

Since 2009, however, is a new, more differentiated rating system categorizes the various uses and new cases.

The official position of GEIPAN regarding UFOs is that no explanation is favored. In addition to data collection and analysis tries GEIPAN more interested in the scientific community to the phenomenon, there could be hidden behind loud GEIPAN the UFO phenomenon "truly revolutionary scientific discoveries."
