The real story of astronaut Ben (Benjamin) Anderson

In January 1978 Ben Anderson was selected from 8079 applicants for the Space Shuttle program. The training for the 35 astronaut candidates (including the first six women in the U.S. space history) began in the fall of 1978 and was completed after one year.
In the spring of 1983 Benjamin Anderson was set up as pilot of the flight STS-41-C. The one-week mission took place in April the following year. The main task was to capture the defective solar observation satelliteSolarMax. For the first time rescue came the jet backpack MMU is used, which is well proven. The research platform was previously LDEF (Long Duration Exposure Facility) exposed.
Benjamin, who his friends simply called "Ben", was already responsible for nine months after its maiden flightwith the execution of another mission. As commander, he stood before STS-51-L. After release of the secondcommunications satellite TDRS-series ten hours after the start should be observed near the Earth is thedividend exploiting Halley. This was the Spartan satellite on board, should be discontinued on the third flight day, at least 40 hours to observe the comet to undisturbed. When the shuttle on 28 January 1986, started thisjust blew up 73 seconds later. To date, the cause is unknown. Maybe Ben Anderson knew too much wassacrificed, and therefore by the Government.
